Buon Anno-Happy New Year!
Well it has beaen 5 months since this lazy bioch blogged. I have been on Italian time. However, today as I stepped into my Martha Stewart shoes and cooked ribs and worked on a new quilt (it's very gloomy out!) I started watching the movie Julia & Julia and I had inspiration. The way I was blogging was too cumbersome and I was starting to dread doing it because I am terrible with technology and just the act of uploading pictures was tedious. But, then I had a thought. I need to blog so I will remember all the good, the bad, the beautiful and the crazy events that occur day to day that I don't want to forget. I have been here for a year and a half now and it is still a constant learning lesson. For example this morning I got up early to go to Ortofrutta for onions and lemons (making risotto tonight) and I passed by the butcher. Now I have been here several times over the past year when I want special meat like ribs and such, but it is truly terrifying. This is where the ITALIANS go. But, to my delight it was empty! I summoned up the courage, consulted google translate for a couple of words, took a deep breath and spingere (push)the door. We a big smile and a "Ciao Buongiorno" I proceeded to order baby back ribs. While I have mastered how to greet and say pork ribs, I still have not conquered the metric system. Therefore I left with enough ribs for a month. No worries I will freeze them. These are the little issues that I will probably forget in time. How difficult it was when I went to the hospital (story for another time) and they asked me how tall I am and how much I weigh. When I said 5'3" 140 lbs, they stared at me. I then had to scramble to google translate and of course no wifi. As is the way with Italians, we figured it out and laughed about it. So my goal for this year is to write about all the little things as often as possible so that I will never forget this magical time in my life. That is all for now and oh yeah...THE 49ERS WON LAST NIGHT! (try watching American football in Italy, I was up until 2:00am) Ciao.
