Greece-Athens

The month of May is here and Ashely and I are off to Greece for 13 days to celebrate our birthdays. Ashley had a 12 hour flight on Emirates which was long but she said the plane was amazing. I took a train to Rome and then a quick one hour flight to Greece We begin our adventure in Athens for two days, which was just the right amount of time. Other than the Acropolis there is not much to see in Athens. There was a lot of graffiti and the town was quite dirty. That being said, the Acropolis was amazing. We had a private tour guide which was very nice. Unfortunately, the day we went is a monthly event where all the museums in the EU give free admission to museums so it was quite crowded. We would have had a much more difficult time without our private tour guide. We booked the trip through Greek Insiders and they arranged all the car transfers, tours, hotels, ferries and airport transportation. I highly recommend this mode of travel. We didn't have to think of a thing. All the cars were Mercedes or BMW vans and cars. The history of Acropolis was quite interesting and she told us about all the Greek gods and myths. We also saw the Areopagus mount where the Apostle Paul gave his sermon from the book of Acts. It was so impressive and interesting to hear how many phrases and logos we use in the English language originated from Greece, i.e. hippocratic oath, Nike emblem, 26K marathon to name a few. We stayed at the Achilles Hotel which was quite nice and had a great restaurant across the street that had fantastic food and live music on Saturday night.
