This weekend my friend Katherine came to visit. Friday was the the Luminara di Santa Croce in Lucca, where all the business lights are out and there are thousands of candles affixed to the exterior of the buildings. A procession of priests and worshippers walk the streets in Medieval costumes and Robes and follow a specific itinerary to carry the wooden crucifix from Stendardo del Volto Santo to the Piazza of San Martino. We met two new friends, Amy & Danielle, while wine tasting at the Piazza San Michele. The four of us had a great time.
On Saturday Katherine and I went to Siena. The weather was perfect and the day was amazing. I am posting a lot of pictures because some things cannot be described in words.
Sunday was Pisa. Although the tower is a tourist attraction, it is really worth seeing. The lean of the building cannot be captured on film. To actually see it is astounding! Although they say the pitch is 5.5 degrees, it looks like so much more. Although we did not climb the 250 steps to the top, we enjoyed it just the same.
