Meet Dorothy

I need a bike! This walking in the heat is killing me. It is still 90-95 every day. After visiting several shops, I have learned that I cannot buy a used bike until the end of the season, which is September, because they rent them to the tourists. I cannot wait that long, so I bought a new one. Meet Dorothy! (obviously a reference to the Wizard of Oz due to the basket).
Today I went back to a charming linen store down the street to pick up some beautiful pillow cases I had custom made. The shop is owned by Barbara and her mother Paula. They are absolutely charming and have been in Lucca for ages. Her father used to run the shop prior to Barbara and Paula taking over. While chatting with Barbara and Paula, I met another Expat, Siobhan, pronounced Shivon, who had just moved to Lucca from Maryland. Siobhan had so much information about what was happening in Lucca. She told me about a weekly get together called English Mondays which is held at a restaurant near the wall. Every Monday from 4-6 fellow Expats gather, chat and exchange tips. She also told me about an online resource called the Grapevine, which is all about the happenings in Lucca. Lucca is a place filled with music and musical events. Saturday is Notte Bianca, which is an evening of fun. We will walk from Piazza to Piazza and at each, there is a scheduled event culminating in a tango in the last Piazza. Pictures to follow! Ciao
